Trump Tower Chicago

The Trump Tower is rising in downtown Chicago, near where the Chicago River meets Michigan Avenue. Officially named The Trump International Hotel and Tower, the building will reach a height of 1,170 feet with 96 floors, featuring both hotel and residential units. The building is expected to be completed in 2009, with portions of the hotel set to open in February 2008.
Chicago’s Trump Tower is being built with 3 setbacks (4 tiers) that will mirror the height of buildings in the area. The 3 tiers are designed to provide continuity with the surrounding architecture. When the building was first unveiled in 2000 it was planned to be the tallest building in the world, but after the terrorist attacks on The World Trade Center, plans for the Trump Tower were scaled back and plans for the new Chicago Spire will now make that the tallest building in North America. Donald Trump has been a vocal opponent of the Chicago Spire plan, saying that the building would be a target for terrorists.
The Trump Tower Chicago is being managed by Bill Rancic, winner from season one of The Apprentice television show. Interestingly, Ivanka Trump seems to have taken on the role of marketing spokesmodel for the skyscraper. Her image is prominently posted on the Trump Tower’s official website, and she is also featured in a video that shows off the many amenities of the world class structure.
The Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago joins a long list of buildings that share the name. Several “Trump Towers” are currently under construction, including sites in Las Vegas, Honolulu, Toronto and New Orleans.
