The 8th Annual Chicago Turkish Festival will take place at Daley Plaza (50 W. Washington St) May 23-26, 2010. The Chicago Turkish Festival is free to public and is open 10am-6pm. Free live performances will take place between noon and 2 PM at the Daley Plaza stage every day.

The Chicago Turkish Festival features art, music and food from Turkey. Performances will include Authentic Turkish Music, Folk Dances, Whirling Dervishes and much more. For more information, visit the official Chicago Turkish Festival website.

2010 Chicago Turkish Festival

Without leaving the comfort of Daley Plaza, visitors will vividly experience Istanbul and various regions of Turkey together with the participants from Turkey and Turkish-Americans living in the culturally diverse community of Chicago. Visitors will be able to browse and buy Turkish products, souvenirs and handicrafts, find travel information, participate in activities for children, view many authentic demonstrations and performances, sample Turkish cuisine, and do much, much more at the Chicago Turkish Festival.

Worlds Largest Block Party 2008

The World’s Largest Block Party (Old St. Pat’s Festival) takes place July 18-19, 2008. The party runs 5:30-10:30pm on both days. The World’s Largest Block party takes place in parking lot at the corner of Madison and Des Plaines, in the West Loop.

The World’s Largest Block Party 2008 will feature the music of Rusted Root on Friday July 18 and the music of Pat Monahan (from the band Train) on Saturday July 19. The official World’s Largest Block Party website says that tickets go on sale June 25. Tickets are $35 in advance and it has been known to sell out. Tickets are available online or at select 5/3 Bank locations.

I attended The World’s Largest Block Party a few years ago, and it was a great time. Many people have called this “The World’s Largest Singles Block Party”, as there is a lot of mingling going on. One of the best things about the evening (besides the music and the beautiful people) was the seemingly free alcohol. When you arrive, you are given 5 free drink tickets. It was also easy to get a few extra free drinks out of the volunteers.

The host of the event, Old St. Pat’s Church, is Chicago’s oldest public building and a treasured historic landmark. The World’s Largest Block Party is Old St. Patrick’s major fundraising event of the year. The Block Party proceeds support the mission and outreach activities of Old St. Pat’s including the Education Center, the Outreach Group, CARA Job Placement and Mentoring Program, Career Transitions Center of Chicago and Global Alliance for Africa.

2008 Pride Parade

The Chicago Pride Parade is one of the biggest parties of the summer. Whether you are gay, straight or somewhere in between, you are sure to have a fun time. The 2008 Chicago Gay Pride Parade steps off on Sunday June 29 at Noon. The parade is expected to attract over 400,000 spectators and 250 floats, so get there early for a good spot.

The Pride Parade starts at the intersection of Belmont and Halstead, traveling North on Halstead. The parade makes a U-Turn at Broadway and travels south on Broadway to Diversey. The parade finishes by traveling East on Diversey to the park.

Stick around after the parade for some great parties.

With the increasing political participation of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans and the community’s relatively high financial resources through political action groups and as individual donors, Illinois politicians have increased their presence at the Chicago Pride Parade. Both the Illinois Democratic and Republican Parties are heavily represented, most noticeably by current Governor Rod Blagojevich, a Democrat, and Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka, a Republican. Both have strong support from many gay and lesbian groups.

The Lollapalooza 2008 Schedule shows that there will be 7 musical stages, with 5-6 of the stages going at any given time. Music will run from 11am-10pm, Aug 1-3, 2008. This has become one of the biggest annual events during the Chicago summer and is something that you should definitely experience.

Lincoln Park Pizza Fest 2008

The 2008 Lincoln Park Pizza Fest will take place Saturday June 21 – Sunday June 22, Noon – 10pm both days. This will be the second annual Lincoln Park Pizza Fest and will feature lots of different pizzas for sale. There is a cornhole tournament, pizza eating contest and musical acts throughout the weekend. Pizza Fest takes place at the intersection of Racine and Fullerton. $5 donation.

Taste of Randolph 2008

The 2008 Taste of Randolph Street takes place Friday June 20 – Sunday June 22. The Taste of Randolph is known for being a more upscale and refined version of the traditional Chicago street festival. The 2008 Taste of Randolph will feature food from West Loop restaurants such as Red Light, Sushi Wasabi, Macello and many more. The Taste of Randolph will also feature music throughout the entire weekend. $10 suggested donation.

The 47th Annual Andersonville Midsommarfest (aka midsummerfest) is a celebration of Swedish heritage, artisans, great food and music. The 2008 Andersonville Midsommarfest will happen Saturday & Sunday, June 14 & 15, 2008. Midsommarfest is open from 11am-10pm on both days at 5200 N. Clark Street. A $5 donation benefits the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce.

The 2008 Andersonville Midsommarfest features 4 musical stages with music from 11am to 10pm.

Grant Park Music Festival

The 2008 Grant Park Music Festival is Chicago’s free classical music festival at Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millenium Park. The Grant Park Music Festival features The Grant Park Orchestra and The Grant Park Chorus, with over 20 different musical programs throughout the summer.

The Grant Park Music Festival takes place every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday (except July 4th) from June 11 to August 16, 2008. Most Music Festival performances start at 6:30 or 7:30pm – but there are also various additional performances, so be sure to check the official Grant Park Music Festival Schedule for exact times and dates.

At The 2008 Grant Park Music Festival, the lawn and general seating areas are free to the public. The forward seating section is reserved for members and donors. To get a good seat for your performance, it is suggested that you arrive at Millenium Park up to an hour before the show begins.
