MSI Green Home

The Museum of Science and Industry’s Green Home has been completed and will be open to the public through January 4, 2009. Sitting on the museum’s lawn, The Green Home features sustainable landscaping, solar power, modular and reuseable materials, and smart technology that monitors the power production and use.
A drawback of the Green Home exhibit is that you must purchase a standard museum admission and then pay extra to visit the Green Home. I’ve been to the Museum of Science and Industry several times and have found that the general museum is targeted towards small children. I enjoy some of their special exhibits, such as Body Worlds, but I would not want to pay $23 (gen admission + green home) to see the Green Home.
The Museum of Science and Industry is open Mon-Sat 9:30am to 4pm; Sun 11am to 4pm; For more information about The Museum of Science and Industry’s Green Home, check out the official Green Home page.
Museum of Science and Industry Green Home
You’re invited to explore a real, three-story modular and sustainable “green” home in the Museum’s own backyard to learn about the ways, big and small, that you can make eco-friendly living a part of your life.
The home, conceived by Michelle Kaufmann Designs and built by All American Homes, forms the exhibit Smart Home: Green + Wired, Powered by ComEd and Warmed by Peoples Gas, which is open through January 4, 2009.
