Chicago has many wonderful museums and most of these museums have Free Days when admission is free to the public. Since it is often hard to keep track of the Chicago Museum Free Days going on throughout the year, I have compiled a list of the most popular Museum Free Days.
Despite what you read here, it is suggested that you contact the specific museum to ensure that their Free Days are still valid.

Adler Planetarium Free Days
The Adler Planetarium has the same Free Day schedule as Shedd Aquarium. The planetarium is open 9:30am - 6pm during the summer; 9:30am - 4:30pm otherwise;
Free Days: June 15-20; Sept 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, 30 (mon & tues); Oct 6-9; Oct 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28 (mon & tues); Nov 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25 (mon & tues)
Art Institute Free Days
The Art Institute of Chicago is free to the public every Thursday evening from 5pm-8pm.
Free Days: Every Thursday evening 5pm-8pm during 2008.
Field Museum Free Days
The Field Museum is Free on the Second Monday of every month. The Field Museum is also free on select weeks throughout the year. Open 9am - 5pm.
Free Mondays: June 9th, July 14th, Aug 11th, Sep 8th, Oct 13th, Nov 10th, Dec 8th
Free Weeks: Sep 21st – 26th, Oct 26th – 31st
Freedom Museum
The McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum is free to public through November 9, 2008. The museum is open Weds-Mon, 10am-6pm.
Free Days: Free through November 9, 2008. (Closed Tuesdays)
MCA Free Tuesdays
The Museum of Contemporary Art has Free Days every Tuesday. Special events every week. The museum is open 10am - 8pm on these free days.
Free Days: Every Tuesday of 2008.
Museum of Science and Industry
The Museum of Science and Industry is free to the public on various dates throughout the year. The museum is open Mon–Sat: 9:30am-4pm; Sun: 11am-4pm;

Shedd Aquarium Free Days
The Shedd Aquarium has 52 Free Days throughout the year. The aquarium is open Weekdays 9am–5pm and Weekends 9am–6pm.

this was great to have all of this info,when i call the museums itself thy give you the runaround and dont know exactly when they have free days,so txs for this list! it helped me alot!
