Chicago’s Free Trolley
By Chris • Updated May 5th, 2008 • Category: Features
TheChicago Free Trolley System is set for full operation during the summer of 2008. The Free Trolley System will be available from Memorial Day (May 24, 2008) through Labor Day (September 1, 2008). The Free Trolley System has changed a bit from previous years, so please note the new routes.
The Navy Pier (yellow star), Museum (green triangle) and Shopping (red circle) routes will run 7 days a week from 10am to 6pm. The Lincoln Park (brown line) Trolley will run only on weekends and holidays. The routes seem generally targeted towards Metra riders who want easy access to Chicago’s tourist attractions. The 2008 Free Trolley Map is not yet available but you can find a station list for all Free Trolley Routes on the City of Chicago website.
If you are not in a rush and do not mind rubbing elbows with strangers, the Chicago Free Trolley is a fun way to get around town. However, the Trolley should not be used as a reliable mode of transportation. There is no set schedule and the Trolleys are often full beyond capacity.
