Adams Street Park

I attended a planning meeting for Park #542, better known as Adams Street Park. At the meeting, we were presented with three different plans for The Adams Street Park, each plan very different from the next. The plans were presented by Site Design Group, whom also designed Park at Lakeshore East, will now take the community’s recommendations and begin work on more detailed possibilities for The Adams Street Park. The Adams Street Park is expected to have a lot of trees, open green spaces, water features, a dog park area, a children’s playground and walking paths.
The Adams Street Park is bordered by Adams, Sangamon, Madision and Peoria Streets. The land for the park is currently occupied by two buildings, the first which is scheduled for demolition in “early spring” and a second building which is scheduled for transfer to the Chicago Park District in January. Construction on The Adams Street Park is tentatively scheduled to begin in “early summer” 2008 and to be completed in “late fall” 2008.

It’s almost summer of 2009 and this park hasn’t been built yet. The structures that occupied the place were demolished earlier this year but it has been close to 2-3 months and nothing has been done there. As a matter of fact, now construction workers in the area are using the piece of land as a huge parking lot! The scene is ugly as hell!!! Does anybody know when the Chicago Park District will go on and begin construction of this new park?
Thank you!
I emailed the city and got this response -
We are currently finalizing construction documents. They will go out to bid early this summer. We expect to start construction to begin early this fall and anticipate completion late spring or early summer 2010. Thank you for your interest in Park #542.
So, yeah, looks like it will be a while still
I emailed the West Loop Organization. Their response is that construction is now scheduled to begin in October, 2009. Given that date, I expect it is highly unlikly we will see any progress this year.
